The P300-1 is perfect for use as a dedicated subwoofer or center channel amplifier. Regardless if you're driving multiple speakers or just one, the hefty 2-ohm capability will deliver the right amount of PUNCH that you want! Now, thanks to its small chassis design, it will also fit where traditional amplifiers cannot. Rockford Fosgate Punch Series Amplification For over 25 years, Punch amplifiers have set the standard in the car audio amplifier industry and they continue to do so today. It's the reason that they have become the most popular amplifiers in the world. Each of the Punch family amplifiers reproduce sonic perfection along with impressive power in a compact chassis. P300-1 Features 12dB/octave crossover 4 Gauge power/ground terminals Audiophile grade speaker connections MOSFET output stage MOSFET power supply Top Mounted LED Indicators CEA-2006 Power ratings on Rockford Fosgate amplifiers conform to CEA-2006 industry standards. These guidelines mean your amplifier's output power ratings are REAL POWER numbers, not inflated marketing ratings. Differential Inputs Differential input circuitry measures the voltage of both the (+) and (-) input signal. The circuitry subtracts the voltage common to both conductors (noise) resulting in only the clean signal. This allows only clean signal to enter the amplifier. Discrete Surface Mount DSM--An industry-leading manufacturing process, DSM utilizes high-speed robotics, high-quality 1% tight-tolerance parts and large board traces. The discrete components are laser etched to meet a particular value and a very low tolerance. This lower tolerance improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature. These superior components are used by aerospace, automotive, and cellular manufacturers. Dynamic Thermal Management Heat is often inefficiently dissipated across a heatsink causing "hot spots". This impacts important design goals which are: Keeping internal components cool. Maximizing potential of all components. Reducing distortion for better sound quality. Increasing efficiency to produce more power. Rockford Fosgate engineers have developed an award winning cooling design called DTM. This patent pending design seamlessly manages the output of power supply temperatures, while evenly distributing the excess heat across the entire amplifier. MEHSA3 MEHSA3 (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application - gen. 3) is a proprietary process that yields up to five times better heat transfer than traditional FET mounting techniques, using the exact same components. A multi-layer insulated metal substrate operating with minimal thermal resistance spreads heat both downward & outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This process combined with our optimized heatsink designs, DSM (Discrete Surface Mount) technology and MOSFET devices, allows Rockford Fosgate to squeeze more watts per cubic inch from every output device as well as provide consistent thermal stability. The 3rd generation creates a dielectric layer between the ceramic topside and the aluminum base that retains all of the electrical isolation and capacitive coupling of the original MEHSA material increasing it's thermal conductivity. The higher power handling results in a 20% reduction in thermal impedance. NOMAD NOMAD is a "real time" analog computer that protects your amplifier from shorting speaker wires and dangerously low speaker impedances. Punch EQ2 In the early 70's, Jim Fosgate studied the acoustical properties of automobiles. Utilizing a real-time analyzer and pink noise, he would graph out the acoustical characteristics of each car he tested. Jim discovered three problems that were common to all cars: A midbass hump between 100-275Hz A steep roll-off of high frequencies from 2kHz up to 20kHz Reduced bass response below 50Hz The Punch EQ on-board equalization circuit helps correct for these acoustical deficiencies in the listening environment. When set to Low-Pass(LP) operation, it becomes a variable Bass Boost. When set to High-Pass (HP) operation, it acts as a variable Mid-Bass and Treble Boost. When set to All Pass (AP) operation, both Bass and Treble frequencies are boosted. TO-247 MOSFETs Rockford Fosgate amps use custom TO-247 MOSFETs. These have 60% more metal tab area for more power capacity, lower impedance and improved heat dissipation over traditional TO-220 MOSFETs found in competitor amps. TRANS•ana An award winning studio quality circuit borrowed from the pro audio company Hafler. TRANS-ana is a sound quality circuit that is a standard in the recording industry that simplifies the signal path of the amplifier, allowing the signal to travel through the amplifier at a low voltage. The result: Greater reliability, cleaner performance and exceptional musicality, speed, and durability. Yatabe I have my Punch 300.1 running at 2ohms on an Alpine Type-R 1242D in a sealed box. The amp is installed underneath my front passenger seat with plenty of room to spare. It hasn't gotten all that hot yet, and it sounds GREAT (especially at extremely high volume...) The amp itself looks sharp, is well contstructed (all of the inputs, wiring, and adjustment knobs are at one end, which helps to keep things clean & organized when installing), it's very compact, and way more powerful than you might think. These amps come out of the box with a test sheet that is often 100+ watts HIGHER than the rms numbers that are on the stock spec sheet. This is a nice surprise for anybody buying one of these new. Installation is a bit more advanced than other entry level priced amps. There is no on-board fuse for protection, so you'll also have to pick up some kind of inline fuse or fuse block. There are compression wiring terminals that can accept up to 4ga power/ground connections. The large size power/ground wiring terminals are obviously needed, because this little amp is also a power hog. It's probably a good idea to add a stiffening cap to your system if you're going to crank it up, because Rockford amps don't tend to be overly efficient. That being said, I've been pounding away on my system and my headlights haven't dimmed out yet... but I do have a Tundra with a V-8 that can handle more demanding power draws on the stock alternator than a smaller engine. However, I would like if the adjustment knobs were more accessible because the downside to the amp design is that it can be difficult to reach the recessed dials depending on your installation. A lot of people probably won't care though, because "normal" people (not gear heads or stereo geeks) will simply "set & forget" and never touch the dials after installation. To sum up; this is one of the best little amps I've ever owned. Yes there are some quirks, but you get a lot more out of this entry-level priced amp than you do from other brands in it's price range. If you pair the Punch 300.1 up with an appropriate subwoofer setup, you will not be disappointed. ******************** UPDATE 3/06/2011 "The Little Amp That Could" is still going strong. I like to listen LOUD and I push this thing pretty hard almost every day, and I haven't had a single problem in the six months since I first installed it. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Rockford rocks me! By Hoovie had this amp over a year now and blew 2 8" subs(friend turned it louder than i said he could!, they were a snack for it pretty much with gain only 1/4 of the way up! just got 2 12" mtx jackhammers (500rms) and the guy down the street with his 3 12" cant believe the clarity and loudness this small amp puts out! Rockford WAY underrated this thing, mine birth sheet shows mine rated at 431rms @2ohms which is 131watts OVER what its supposed to put out! ive run this thing hours and rest assured... i give up far before it does. i need to buy stock in ibuprofen! so unless you want to blow your eardrums out or be heard in china then this is the one... it'll still let ppl know at all 4 corners of the intersection what good taste you have in music :P 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great receiver, so far By Mikey likes it Having listened to mid-range receivers from most of the major brands, I liked the sound of the Denons the best..a bit warmer than the Onkyos, which is better for music. The Pioneers sounded nice, but lacked Audyssey (using the proprietary MACC instead). Marantz sounded great but aren't as fully featured as comparably priced Denons. I wanted a receiver that's up-to-date with all of the latest surround sound formats and is relatively future proof, since I don't plan to upgrade again for several years. The 3311 seemed to fit the bill perfectly and I'm very happy with my purchase so far. The sound quality is great. I thought that my old Onkyo sounded pretty good, but this surpasses it by far. Audyssey MultiEQ XT does an excellent job at tailoring the equalization to compensate for the acoustical flaws in the room. I've never had a system that sounds so balanced, detailed and immersive. There's plenty of power to drive most speakers (even my inefficient Polk RTiA7's) to their potential. I was initially concerned about the reduced weight of the newer Denon mid-range receivers compared to older models, but this concern seems to be mostly unfounded, as the performance and adequate power speaks for itself. Pre-outs are included to allow for the addition of external amps, if desired. Last year's models apparently suffered from networking problems. Fortunately, these issues seem to have been resolved in the 3311 and the network features have worked flawlessly so far. By the way, the upcoming model AVR-991 is priced $200 lower and is basically the same as the 3311, except it has no pre-outs, a couple less inputs, one less zone and one remote instead of two. To me, this unit (or the 991) is the sweet spot in the new Denon line as far as performance, features and value. It's reasonably priced, being $300 less than last year's 3310, yet has more features and probably better sound, due to the upgrade to the "XT" version of MultiEQ. It'll cost a lot more to step up to the next higher model (4311?) and, based on comments I've read, the difference in sound quality is likely to be marginal at best. The 3311 comes with a 3 year warranty (the AVR-991 warranty is only 2 yrs). Based on my experience with this receiver so far, I'd definitely buy it again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a friend. Tip: try to get it on sale. I got mine for 25% off list price despite being a newly released model. 32 of 33 people found the following review helpful. DOA Networking still a problem By Jay If you spend some time reading AVSForums you'll learn that last years model (the 3310) was plagued with dead networking cards. It appears that nothing has changed with there year's model. I ordered the 3311 from 6th Ave and they were quick to ship with a good price but after hooking it up I realized my network card was busted. The unit will hang in the "Network Connecting" screen and never acquire an IP address or permit you to manually change any of the network settings. Again, searching thru AVSForums I learned that this was a common problem on the 3310 and a few folks have had this with the 3311. Since the networking features are the primary reason to step up to the 3311 from the 2311, this is a deal breaker. I contacted 6th Ave and so far they have been great about the return. I'm on the fence on whether to try another Denon or try a Pioneer. After my issues, I read up and realized that the Denons have a serious issue with reliability in terms of the network card. Sure they offer a 3 year warranty, but you'll be without your receiver for weeks and have to pay to ship something that weighs 40lbs across the USA. I have the 2310 now, and it's been a reliable receiver but I needed to upgrade to get 3D support. I upgraded one model to get Pandora support and what I thought was digital source support for Zone 2. After having the unit I now

GREAT STEREO FOR THE PRICE By blackbeltlover I live in a bad neighborhood in central Phoenix and have had several stereos stolen from my car( about one a year) whether I pull the face off or not. Needless to say, I no longer want to spend big bucks on my sounds and this stereo fit the bill pricewise. For an inexpensive stereo you get clean, crisp, customizable sound, an I pod or mp3 plug on the face, and a great tuner. The last stereo i had cost nearly 3 times what I payed for this and it would not catch my favorite FM station from the other end of town. This stereo catches it clear and loud. I recommend this stereo for anyone on a budget who demands quality sound. 22 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Great no-frills factory radio upgrade receiver. By nitelifeguy I did a lot of research on upgrading my old and worn out factory radio on my Toyota Camry. I was looking for something that did all of the basics (play discs and had an AUX input). I didn't need all of the ipod bells and whistles and was looking for a unit that was budget friendly but had nice audio. After purchasing 2 different receivers, which turned out one of them wasn't compatible with my factory wiring and the second had install difficulty and lower than average sound specs. I came across this Pioneer here on Amazon. The install was a breeze. Fit and looked great in my dash. The sound quality and features were up there with the other major brands. This unit packs more than enough power to liven your music collection up even without a seperate amplifier.I like the 3 band EQ especially to tailor all three frequency ranges (bass, mids and treble) and the SuperTunerIII radio reception is nice even in my rural area. If you just want a receiver that plays your pre-bought and burned CD's and maybe plug an MP3 player into once in awhile, This one is worth a try. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. A good product By David Holloway I bought this CD radio to replace one in a Ford Pickup. I had to purchase a wire harness assembly to install it. The wire harness assembly came with installation directions. It was easier then I expected to install. The radio and C.D. player work wonderfully. I am very satisfied. I would recommend this as a replacement radio. See all 24 customer reviews...

It worked out so well that I have purchased another to go in my 1988 Harley Davidson Electraglide Classic to replace the stock unit which was really showing its age. I purchased a adaptor kit from an online source which allows me to plug the Sony into my handlebar controls as if it was the much more expensive Harley replacement radio. Very happy with this receiver, especially with the IPod interface, it works very well. May buy another to put in the boat. Highly recommend. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Simple functionality, but great sounds for cheap price By S. C. I was looking for a stereo with great sound and ipod connection for a very affordable price. I think this was a great choice. The sound of the stereo is rich, and even though I am not comparing it with other high-end stereos, I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with the audio quality of this unit. Very clear highs and great bass. Features-wise it's a very simple system. The EQ works great and has a custom set-up and very nice choice of factory presets. The ipod plug-in charges the ipod and plays the tunes at the same time. CD player and radio are also good. Now to the negatives that you should know about ... The radio sensitivity is definitely lower than of other stereos I owned. In the large city where I live, I get more interference than I used to with my stock car radio. Though, it's not that bad, so it's still listenable, and interference happens just once in a while. Now my biggest complaint: the ipod controls are very uncomfortable in my opinion. As I plug in my ipod to the ipod connector, the ipod becomes uncontrollable, and the XPLOD logo is displayed on the ipod screen. The stereo starts playing whatever album or playlist you selected before you plugged in the ipod into the stereo. If you want to change the playlist, you can disconnect the ipod and choose another playlist (hard to do when driving). Unfortunately when the playlist is done playing the ipod goes to the first album alphabetically and starts playing it automatically. There's no way to make it repeat the album I chose over and over. So that is why I have to disconnect my ipod and choose my playlist again. It is annoying, but I can handle it, since I drive an automatic and have one hand free. The other way to control the ipod is through the radio, but the setup is poor. You have to choose the album list or the artist list mode. Then you'd have to scroll through each album or artist one at a time, by pressing the buttons. You can speed scroll, but if you pause on a title it starts playing on it's own, and you have to wait a few seconds before you can continue your search. If you have a large amount of music on your ipod, then scrolling through the list with up and down buttons becomes a huge annoyance. That is why I never use these controls. I just unplug my ipod and choose something else using ipod's controls. The other minor details worth mentioning are the screen brightness and the security beep. The screen is very bright blue, and while driving at night that hurts my eyes. But there is a setting I can use to dim it. Though I'd prefer it becomes dim when I turn the headlights, and become bright when I turn them down. Some stereos have a control pin for that. This one doesn't, so I keep it dim all the time, which is ok, and visible during the day. The security beep is what happens when I stop my car engine and take out my car key from the ignition. The radio beeps three times to remind me to take out the faceplate. There is no way to turn off the beeps, I believe, but it's not that loud, and I just ignore it. I never take out the face plate. The sound is more like musical chirps, rather than beeps anyway. Bottom line, if you don't mind the inconvenient ipod controls on the

I did the install myself, which wasn't too hard. The metal box that the radio slides into was slightly too wide at the front so I had to cut it down a little, but I think that's just because there's very little room in a Miata. The radio comes with a single connector with all the wires you should need (front/back speakers, main power, clock power, power antenna, etc.) There's a plug for the FM antenna, but that's it. There's no pre-amp output, cd-changer control, etc. (I didn't care about these things, so that's just fine with me.) The previous owner cut the factory wiring harness, so I had to solder the wires together myself, but anyone with basic skills can do that. (Or you can get it installed by a car stereo shop.) The picture shows red lettering on the buttons and a red backlight on the "source" and "mode" buttons. Mine came with green lettering and green backlight. (This matches the car better, so I'm happy with that.) The blue display is back lit and looks the same as in the picture. One nice feature that isn't on a lot of radios in this price range is the fact that you can dim the back light on the main display. I've seen a lot of people complain about the displays of other radios in this price range as being too bright or too dark, and there's no adjustment. The GT-120 has a button on the lower left that allows you to switch between and bright (daytime) and more dim (nighttime.) It is just a two position dimmer though (you can't vary the amount of brightness other than bright or dim.) The radio sounds great, and is plenty loud for my car (though I'm only driving a pair of 6 1/2" speakers in the doors and a pair of 2 1/2" speakers in the head rests, so I don't really need a lot of power. It would work fine as a replacement for a factory stereo in a standard car or van. Don't expect it to drive those 12" subwoofers in the trunk. There are 18 FM presets (three groups of 6) and 12 AM presets (two groups of six). The CD player is supposed to play CD-R's (haven't tried that yet) but it will not play MP3's or WMA's stored on CD's. It does, however, have a standard 3.5mm stereo jack on the front which you can use to plug in an MP3 player. This works great, and as a nice touch you can vary the input volume of the aux input in comparison to the radio and CD inputs. This allows you to switch between CD, radio, and your MP3 player without huge differences in volume. Like other Sony receivers in this line, when you turn the car off, the radio beeps three times as a reminder to remove the face plate of the radio. There's no way to turn this off, and it comes through the car speakers, so there's no way to disable it from inside the unit itself. Some people find this very annoying, but I don't really mind that much. It isn't very loud, and you can avoid hearing the beeps all together if you pop the face off halfway and immediately pop it back on. I usually don't bother and only remove the face when I'm parking the car in an area I don't trust. (e.g. not at work or at home in a locked garage.) I found the controls really easy to use. The volume knob isn't too sensitive, and there's enough resistance to the knob when you push on it that you don't accidentally enter the settings menu when you just want to turn the volume up or down. One complaint is that it isn't easy to fine-tune radio stations. By default it wants to seek to the next station, and you have to hold the button in for a sec until it starts to scan, then hit the + or - buttons quickly to go up or down manually. If you wait too long, the radio switches back into scan mode. You can choose between several different eq settings, but there is only one custom setting. However, your choices under custom are pretty limited. As compared to other brands in this price range, I found the Sony to have the

If you know anything about car stereos, this REAL wattage is the only thing that matters, not what the amp manufacturers claim wattage to be. This amp doesnt get hot, and is a serious performer for the money. Class D means it is extremely efficient, and its a mono subwoofer amplifier. For those of you with small 4 cylinder engines and small alternators, yes your headlights will dim no matter what amp you put in there. Get a capacitor if you have a 4 cylinder motor. I have an S10 with a 4.3L V6, stock alternator rated at 110 Amps, and my headlights do not dim. I dont have a capacitor. This amp slams whatever is connected to it. For the money, you can not beat this amp. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Powerful Amp A+ By Michael Sellers I have this amp paired with an Alpine R12 (4 ohm), and it is amazing. With the gain over 3/4, it is TOO POWERFUL for any kind of conversation in my 08 Civic. I also bought a 1 Farad capacitor, because my headlights were dimming. This amp has not cut out once, even in near 100 degree heat and bumpin'. I recommend this amp because of it's flawless performance, light price, active cooling, and heavy hitting power. I am very impressed with this amp. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Super Amazing! By a4455johndeere I have 2 12in. Kicker CVX's with 2 ohm DVCs and I have a KAC-9103D but that amp wasn't enough for the 2 subs, so I got this one so the amps were similar. All I can say is "HOLY CRAP!" This amp is definitly powerful. With both subs, I have talked to my friends after I have sat behind them at a red light and they said that I'm rattlin' their car too. Really I can't really describe the power of the amp unless you experience it but again, all I can say is "HOLY CRAP!" See all 27 customer reviews...

By Jonathan Huckabay I used to install car stereos for 6 years and this is the best, hands down, bargain for the quality and performance. Pre-amp outputs are front, rear and sub rated at 4 volts each. This is -perfect- Has an Auxillary 35mm(1/8 inch) plug for any audio playing device you could think of; it has a USB port on the front and beyond the Crabapple iPod you can use a USB flashdrive. I opt for the flash drive with 8 gigabytes rather than anything else. CD Play is perfect and skip free and capable of "forcing" the player to read those aweful CDs that are scratched beyond belief. I have read and heard numerous complaints of the complexity of the owner's manual but I shall report that it pales in complexity to any home stereo reciever manual. You basically use ONE KNOB which lets you keep your eyes on the road as you turn up or turn down the volumne, change the song, change the USB music folder, change the equalizer, change the high/low/subwoofer pass filters and MORE with ONE KNOB! Remote control also included in case you just want to lay back and not move your arm nor lean forward with an abcrunch to adjust anything. Overall great budget unit By David I bought this based primarily on 2 reasons. Firstly, I need 3 pre-outs to match my current audio setup, and secondly this has a USB connector. A few other benefits were front panel AUX IN, 2 lines of info display, decent EQ capabilities, and a blue display (to match my dash color scheme.) I replaced my 8-10 year old Sony Xplode head unit with this. I haven't owned any other units except my Sony, so I cant comment much on comparisons. This plays CD within 2 seconds after loading, it scans the USB drive after plugin and is ready to play within 3-4 seconds(+1). The radio tuner works great and gives much more precise audio quality then my previous unit. The EQ functions and control granularity are probly 2-3 times as advanced as my Sony (+1) I read a lot of reviews saying this is "hard to control" as a negative point, I disagree - this was very easy to learn. I did have a small stumbling with the initial setup tho. This was shipped in the "STANDBY" mode where it makes no output when u first turn it on... after wasting 10-15 minutes checking my wiring I realized this (-1) Update: This unit seems to be glitchy with the USB drive where sometimes it will not read or it will say "reading..." but never do anything. This issue happens a few times a week; I need to unplug & replug the drive in to fix this. Alos, over the winter I experienced multiple issues where the unit turns off entirely when I touch a button on the face. This may be related to cold weather or a loose wire, I will post back if I find a cause. 12 of 16 people found the following review helpful. For the price, this is a feature-packed head unit By SMDEE Let me clearly explain that I am not using an external amplifier with this unit. Consequently, I have no experience with the pre-outs and bass control. The audio qualities are not my top interests for this purchase. Features, ease of use, and the display are my main tagets. That said... I am building a portable radio using a car head unit to provide input sources and amplification along with a pair of Polk db651 speakers . My requirements were to be able to listen to AM/FM (HD radio and Bluetooth at some future time), CDs, MP3s on CD, AUX input (MP3/portable DVD player), USB thumb drive, wireless remote, and the ability to control iPODs via the head unit. Another critical feature for me was a display that was visible in sunlight (at the beach) and could be read from a distance. I demo'd two Pioneer Premier units (P610BT and P510B), an Alpine unit (CDA-105), two JVC

Gerenser This is the third in-dash receiver I've installed in my car in the past 2 years, and I have to say, this is by far the best head unit yet. I didn't install an amp and I'm using the stock speakers, so I can't comment much on audio quality. It's as good as can be expected from the marginal factory speakers. Instead, this review will focus on features. The P7000BT has a very nice, clean design. Some car receivers are just overloaded with dozens of tiny buttons and goofy graphics. Not so with this unit: it is clean and neat, but not too spartan. The cool blue and white faceplace looks modern, and is bright and easy to read in both sunlight and at night. The large rotary knob on the left side controls volume, station selection and tons of other functions. Its not as elegant as the click wheel on an iPod, but lets face it, no other company can come close to the ease of use of an Apple product. It will take a little getting used to, but after using this Pioneer receiver for a few days, I got the hang of the interface, and I like it. Note that there are no station preset numbers on the faceplate itself; instead, you use the rotary knob to select from one of 6 favorite stations, or you can use the included remote to directly select a preset. At first, I thought this was kind of lame, but after using it for a while, I don't mind it at all. The built-in Bluetooth is a godsend. Within minutes of first installing the P7000BT, I was able to pair it with my iPhone. It just works. Not much else to say about this. I also installed a USB to Dock cable, allowing an iPod or iPhone to connect directly to the head unit via USB. Nothing special is required: a standard dock cable is all you need (Apple brand or third party, doesn't matter). Not only does the receiver play the iPod's audio through the car speakers, but it also charges the iPod without the use of an extra clunky cigarette lighter charger. You can even choose to have the head unit control the iPod, in which song titles, artist info, track number and duration show up on the head unit. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to do all your searching on the iPod or iPhone itself. I like how the receiver gives you both options. I prefer to control all my music on the iPod or iPhone, because Apple's interface for browsing music is simply unmatched. In this review you've seen me mention the iPhone several times. Just to confirm, yes, the P7000BT does work flawlessly with the iPhone, despite the fact that Pioneer never lists it as officially supported. No complaints here. It just works. Overall, a very nice receiver. Highly recommended! 17 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Perfect ??? (Should be 4 stars, but I can't change the rating) By A. Jay Hunter Bought this deck and the HD unit from Amazon (etronics). Received the components in 2 days, and I received both units for $280 ($220 deck+90 HD Radio - $30 Amazon credit) which is less than the head unit alone from a lot of places. I bought this unit because I don't like ipods, small buttons, flashy displays, or low voltage outputs. This unit allows me to use USB, has simple controls, simple one line display, and four volt outputs. Having just used a jvc hd radio unit, I found I like being able to pull up traffic/weather reports every minute on our news HD3 radio station so I had to get the HD Radio add on. Bluetooth: The mic was easy to run, and I glued it to my steering colum so that it is less conspicuous in this location. Getting the phone to connect to the head unit was easy, ONCE I understood how to work the big knob system. The sound comes out of the microphone instead of through the speakers, and that's ok, the clarity is pretty good. One knock is that users complain of static when they speak, my voice is coming through crystal clear. I tried the various echo settings, but the listeners still complained

Burns I bought this product from a cheaper source, but use these reviews to determine which head unit to buy. The MEX-BT5700U had all the features I was looking for at a decent price. I have a '92 Toyota Pickup with a manual transmission, so Bluetooth calling was my top priority (safety) as my state hasn't implemented handsfree calling laws yet. My calls at highway speed (windows up) were clear and my caller only noticed a slight hum/noise and reported I sounded very clear. This was using the external mic provided on default settings for the gain and noise cancelling. Note: if an external mic is provided with ANY head unit(this one comes with an external mic)USE IT, DO NOT bother with a head unit that you cannot add or use an external mic....proper mic placement is key. I placed my mic on the steering column in front of my gauges. Pairing was simple, and iPod control is built in so you DO NOT need the separate iPod controller Sony sells for the other units. I also purchased the HD-Radio unit, but haven't installed it yet. The controls, and layout are decent, but some functions take multiple pushes of a single button to reach, or spin the dial....this can be a bit tough while driving. I figure after some use I will figure out what buttons do what and how many times to push to get to a function. In my opinion, no head unit is completely intuitive but I believe this unit provides a reasonable logic to it, but could most certainly be improved like every other head unit on the market. I recommend this unit to anyone looking for hands free calling, and iPod control. For the iPod control, all you need is your iPod USB cable, plug it in and the unit recognizes it and takes control. The unit can control the iPod, but nothing beats holding the iPod in your hand and selecting music the way you are used too. Looking at the screen you will still see the Artist Name and Song Title displayed even when in 'passenger mode'. Again, I haven't read a single review of any unit that has 'excellent' iPod controls. Four stars because, no head unit is perfect, and Sony could probably spend more effort in making the controls more intuitive. 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Very Pleased By Walter D. Fenyk Purchased this unit for a 98 pathfinder - really just wanted to add Bluetooth and iPod. Have only been playing with it for a short time but thought i would offer some feedback for others looking at the unit. Overall i am very satisfied with the unit and for the price i paid there is no reason to complain. (using the exisitng Bose amp and speakers that were factory installed) Flaws: 1. iPod control from the head unit is basically useless if you have alot of music. Solution just control the music from the ipod. use the head unit to advance songs but again almost impossible to find the song you want when you have several thousand songs. having playlists created makes it a bit easier. Sony could have done a much better job with the ipod interface. 2. Display - truely is tough to see in daylight. turning off the background graphics helped some but just very hard to see. Others have reported this. 3. Phone book - had no trouble loading my phone book off my Blackberry Storm. However, i have a very large list of contacts and they did not fit into the units memory. I need to do a bit of research here to find out the deal. Solution - just browse the phonebook vs loading it. And only loading the numbers of contacts that i care to have in the unit. Likes: 1. Bluetooth phone is very good - mic sensitivity can be adjusted and very clear for hands free. 2. Bluetooth streaming music - really impressed here- dont always have my ipod with me - but always have my blackberry where i have a few thousand songs stored. if your phone supports stereo Bluetooth you can stream music directly to the unit. 10 of 10 people found the following review

GPS, Live TV, Bluetooth, Media Streaming via Bluetooth, Play DVD,s-etc! One thing I find great is you can set a background on the display. Has so many inputs and outputs. I have my whole system amplified via Front, Rear, and Sub amps, so I can't say how the sound quality through the built-in amp is. I may add a video review later, because there are SO many things this head unit does! I HIGHLY recommend this unit! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. excellent By edmaka one of the best product i ever purchased thanks....easy installation, good quality and best of all, it's a small price to product quality See all 2 customer reviews...

So far, all is good and no real complaint. The unit is loaded with features and options so what you can do with it is limitless. I have this unit connect through my factory head unit but the sound is still pretty good. The dvd is nice and clear and the navi works great. The touch screen is very responsive as well. I really like the fact that it plays mp3s off of a dvd. It is also convenient that it comes with a usb port to play mp3s off of. You can buy a ipod adaptor but why when you can get a cheap usb drive to play your music out of. I have it connected to a 8 gig thumb drive(bought for like $15) that I perminantly keep on there since it is plenty to hold all of my music. You have to touch the screen on a unmarked location to activate the menu control options which is something I need to get used to. So far...I am definitely enjoying my new toy. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I knew I didn't want to spend lot of money because my car is really old. I wanted something simple that would play CD's and radio. Unfortunately this CD player does not have an anti skip device and constantly scratches and skips and pauses while the car is in motion. I don't understand why any CD player that is going to be inside a moving vehicle would not be equipped to protect the sound quality or integrety of the CD. Im really dissapointed with my purchase. The radio is nothing but static and the sound quality os poor. Overall if you really want something flashy and thats going to give you great sound then I'd say spend the extra money and get something better. If you're just looking for some soound in your car and are not particular then this one is fine....for the time being. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good product for price By R. Wilson I bought this to replace an older Kenwood CD player. I installed it in my 68 Dodge dart into a specially made holder to match the vintage interior without cutting the dash. The wires were labeled nicely. It works great. Looks good. Only drawback would be that it doesn't have presets for FM. I don't listen to radio all that often so I chose this model becuase in lieu of presets, this one has aux input for ipods. I haven't gotten the cord to try it yet but I'm definitely going to use that option since the mp3 player turns into a big jukebox for your car and you don't have to carry CDs around. It runs into Infinity 6 inch two way speakers in front and 3 way 6by9's in boxes in the back seat floor. Sounds very good even with top down at full throttle through the glasspacks. Make sure the right side of the face is down all the way and then click in the left side when reattaching face since if you don't, the buttons don't work. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice Unit, with Reservations By Dirk Gates While I didn't purchase this unit, it was installed in the car I recently bought. It's a really nice stereo, with well laid-out buttons. It loses 1 star for it's bright blue display (the box on the left of the unit, not the accents). There is no way to reduce the annoying brightness. I'm going to have to resort to using a small patch of window cling film to cut the brightness in half. Hopefully that will do it, because I don't want to ditch the radio for this one drawback. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. It's crap!!! By JoeK When I test drove my car, it had this CD/radio receiver installed and it didn't even work. I was glad to hear that somebody had stolen the radio before I had a chance to buy the car. The seller replaced the receiver with the same one!!! The radio worked for the first few days and then stopped working so all I can do to listen to music is plug my mp3 player into the front jack. It may play audio CDs but it will not take mp3 CD which is very inconvenient. And like the other reviewers have said, the display is blinding at night. Yet another drawback is that it only puts out 15 watts per channel max. I'm waiting for somebody to steal my radio again so I can replace it! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Bad radio By Patrick Conner As the others have said, the bright blue LCD is annoying. Additionaly, the am/fm tner quit within a month of installation. Dual has a rather low reputation, and this player sure proves that it is deserved. See all 16 customer reviews...

My main criteria was looks, iPod compatibility, simplicity, and price. This is a matter of opinion, but I like the way this looks. Doesn't have the obnoxious lights and fancy LCD screens that just aren't that appealing to me in a car radio. This radio has a slight red light around the volume knob, and I like the clean look of the white LCD display on the black background. The front-facing auxiliary input makes connecting an iPod / phone / whatever device with an audio out jack very easy (The required cable, a 3.5mm M/M stereo cable, isn't included, but these are widely and cheaply available both on Amazon and elsewhere). Sound quality is very good (on par with CD's and much better than any fm transmitter or cassette adapter). I've only used the CD player once and while the sound was good, I don't see myself using it very often. The locations of the buttons is nice, and my only complaint is that they are a little on the small side. Other than that, easy to use / reach from the drivers seat, and pretty intuitive. I did initially overwrite all my presets when messing around with the "Best Stations Memory" before I really knew what it was (stores the 6 stations with the strongest frequencies as your presets in the selected band - useful for travelling I suppose). If you choose to glance over the manual, I'm sure you won't have any problems. After looking around at stereos, this was the best I found in the

The preset curves include midrange contouring, giving music more clarity and presence. System Q EX allows the user to modify the preset curves by changing the amplitude of the bass, midrange and treble compensation, and the Q of the bass and midrange compensation. The new curves can then be saved as presets for future recall What's in the Box Kenwood KDC-X494, Remote Control, Wiring Harness, Installation Tools and Hardware, Owner's Manual, Warranty Card

For the money, for the features and for the quality you need to buy this and get your friends to buy one themselves. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful.
